Frequently Asked Questions

ASP Levels
  • An Accredited Service Provider (ASP) is a NSW government scheme that grants qualified individuals and businesses authorisation to work on the NSW electricity distribution network, in conjunction with electricity utilities such as Essential Energy.

    • Level 3 ASPs design network assets.
A level 3 plan is the first step of a project, involving the design and drawing of proposed works within existing energy transmission and distribution networks. Proposed designs must be approved by the energy utility before works can begin.

    • Level 2 ASPs work to connect service lines between the distribution system and individual premises, through overhead or underground cables.

    • Level 1 ASPs work to construct network assets and new infrastructure, such as; cables, poles, trenches, power lines and transformers.

  • Any construction project that involves changes to the electricity network, including upgrades or new connections, requires a detailed design and construction plan from a Level 3 ASP before any construction work proceeds.

    Some common examples include:

    • Undergrounding (replacing overhead cabling with underground cables)

    • Subdivisions

    • Connections for solar farms & renewable energy generators

    • Upgrading substations or new connections on rural properties

  • A design project typically takes 6 months from start to finish.

    • Up to 6 weeks for Essential Energy to generate and send a Design Information Package

    • Up to 6 weeks for our designers to produce a detailed construction plan

    • Up to 12 weeks for affected third parties to review and approve the project (eg. councils, property owners, and Essential Energy)

Timing can be critical in the economics and effectiveness of any project, and we aim to meet all reasonable timeframes and ensure we provide accurate information and reliable communication to our clients and stakeholders throughout the process.
